A Healthy Outlook on Life
Helping You Have Fun Keeping Fit
Meadowood provides many ways for you to maximize the six aspects of wellness. Here are some of the choices we provide on campus:
The revitalizing warmth of our sunny Indoor Therapy Pool delights swimmers. Professionally directed aquatic classes and open swim sessions welcome residents and family members. The "endless" pool's powerful current invigorates crawlers while many luxuriate in the massaging Jacuzzi jets. The pool is ideal for gaining a full range-of-motion in water walking and aqua-aerobic classes. Adjacent locker rooms with showers and dressing areas speed transition from wet to dry-land activity.
Residents use a variety of hand-held and ankle wrap weights in one of our professionally guided Strength Training Classes held twice each week, beginning with large muscle groups important to aiding balance and mobility and progressing to small muscle group toning for overall fitness.
Equipped with state-of-the-art Keiser exercise and cardiovascular machines, the Fitness Center draws new recruits as well as veterans for fun and fitness. Individual instruction is provided to newcomers, and progress charts, free massages and recognition parties keep exercisers motivated. Keiser equipment uses air pressure instead of cumbersome metal plates to set weight, and evidence of strength gains for participants aged 60 to 90+ is well documented in the fitness center.
Exercise Classes specially choreographed for older adults are scheduled seasonally. Body Recall is a nationally recognized exercise program taught by a certified YMCA instructor with musical accompaniment. Tai Chi has been popularized by recent western fascination with The Far East. Slow deliberate movements enhance concentration, balance, and energy flow.
Line Dancing, Ballroom Dancing and Square Dancing are favorites for beginner to advanced level dancers seeking a sociable fitness experience. Sessions often correspond to special theme events on the resident social calendar.
"One of the major benefits is the mental lift I feel after exercising."
