I’d like to interrupt our regularly scheduled blog post about the Dimensions of Wellness to share some of our exciting upcoming programming for the spring! Imagine you’re a resident here at Meadowood Senior Living, joining us for your favorite activities. Or, maybe trying out some new ones like these: We’re running for the roses on April 30th with our Kentucky Derby Happy Hour! The Fitness and Wellness team will be traveling from courtyard to courtyard with big hats, seersucker jackets and our very own version of horse racing in honor […]

Exploring the Spiritual Dimension

At Meadowood Senior Living, the Spiritual Dimension of Wellness doesn’t just come out at Halloween. Okay, okay. Bad joke, but it’s true! Meadowell programming is designed to welcome spiritual exploration and nurturing every day. It is important to note that while spirituality and religion often exist in tandem, they are not the same thing. While religion is a particular system of belief and worship, spirituality is a guiding force. A set of values that give direction to your life. It is the willingness to seek meaning and purpose in life. […]

A Banner Day

The Meadowood Fitness and Wellness Department had a great day yesterday! Although we opened up our facilities in varying degrees throughout the pandemic, this time feels different. This time it feels like we are approaching permanence. What was so normal just a little over a year ago now seems as if it should be heralded with fireworks and a parade. It has been a long year. I don’t think anyone would argue with that. But throughout all of it, our residents handled the uncertainty, the ever-evolving rules, and the sometimes-challenging […]

Resident Artist Draws Inspiration From Life at Meadowood

Meadowood’s celebrated resident artist (and Renaissance man) Bill Bourne is known for his watercolors. And his murals. And his pen-and-ink drawings. And his cartoons, with commentary on topics from politics to COVID-19. Not to mention his longtime career as a commercial artist and silkscreen printer. Oh, and he has a background in theatre set design. Are we missing anything? Probably. Bill’s variety of projects is rivaled only by his formidable talent and his longtime dedication to his craft. A Longstanding Artistic Collaboration With Meadowood Although Bill and his wife Ginny, […]

The First Dimension

The First Dimension: Physical Wellness I would like to start our in-depth look at MEADOWELL and the Six Dimensions of Wellness by talking about the Physical Dimension of Wellness. According to the National Institute of Wellness, “Optimal wellness is met through the combination of good exercise and eating habits… The physical benefits of looking good and feeling terrific most often lead to the psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction.” Time and again here at Meadowood Senior Living, we see firsthand the benefits of nurturing […]

A Culinary Valentine

Meadowood’s Executive Chef Matthew Doman has created many special Valentine’s Day dishes in his time, including twin lobster tails, twin petite filet mignons and other romantic pairings. But this year, he and his team outdid themselves to show their love for Meadowood during challenging times. “We wanted to make the dinner extra special and put a little twist on it,” Matthew says. “There is a pink or red hue in each item.” The delectable Valentine’s Day menu included tomato and crab bisque, shrimp and scallops with a tomato blush sauce, […]

Welcome back to the Wellness Blog! I wanted to talk a little bit about our signature mission here at Meadowood Senior Living, which we call MEADOWELL. MEADOWELL is not so much a program or a plan, but a way of life. It is a focus on the six dimensions of wellness we espouse—physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, vocational and social. Everything you do, every day, encompasses at least one of these dimensions of wellbeing. Our quest is to offer support to you in achieving wellness over every one of these dimensions. […]

Hidden Treasures of Meadowood Shine Bright

Some might call it a thrift shop, but Hidden Treasures, located in the Meadowood Guest House, looks and feels more like a high-end boutique. Ann Stathopoulos, Manager, and her Co-manager, Eleanor Kingsbury, spend countless hours making this eclectic treasure trove gleam. “It’s a very labor-intensive job,” Eleanor says. “We have all these boxes and materials coming in from all over the community — we have to go through and sort them.” By the time they’ve finished sorting and arranging, Ann and Eleanor have uncovered some amazing finds. What do they […]
