The Sun is Shining at Meadowood

The Sun is Shining at Meadowood

The Sun is Shining at Meadowood

Confession time: I am a winter girl.

Whenever I tell people I love the snow, they groan. When I tell them I thrive in the cold, they shake their heads in disbelief. When I tell them I could happily live in a yurt on the tundra somewhere, they tell me I’m crazy.

I can’t help it. It’s in my DNA. I grew up in the mountains, where snow was celebrated. It meant ski season, snowmobiling, tobogganing, ice skating, and gallons of hot chocolate. My dad once built an igloo down by the lake that lasted the whole winter. We had hours of fun in that thing. We even asked to sleep in it for a night. (The answer was, “No way.”)

But even I have to admit, I am ready for warmth. Maybe not the heat of the summer, but definitely the sunshine. So far, it’s been pretty much a bust. The incessant rain and colder-than-average temperatures haven’t made for a fun spring, but this warm week has given us some hope. And planning the May Fitness and Wellness calendar has us all looking forward to outside activities and sun-kissed cheeks. So much going on!

May marks the start of our outdoor Courtyard Workouts once again. There’s just something about exercising in the fresh air that get’s everyone’s blood pumping.

Thursday, May 5th is the National Day of Prayer. Fitness and Wellness is partnering with our wonderful new chaplain, Julie Stumpf, for an event entitled “Rhythm and Prayer” outside in our beautiful Stratton Garden.

In the middle of the month, our residents are encouraged to wear their Meadowood gear and join us on a trip to have lunch at the ballpark and watch the Meadowood-sponsored little league team play a game on their home field. Who could say no to a hot dog and a good game of baseball on a bright spring day?

Of course, we can’t forget about Mother’s Day. Residents and staff alike are encouraged to come post a “Message to Mom” on the bulletin board by the pool. And for some more indoor fun, the Meadowood Players Theater Group is presenting their latest production, “Auditioning for Love.” I’ve peeked in on the rehearsals, and I can tell you, it’s sure to be a hit. Move over, Broadway.

And finally, we’re hosting a Summer Kickoff on the patio by the pool just before Memorial Day weekend. We’re opening the glass wall to the great outdoors, putting on some island music, playing water volleyball and wearing our flip flops in anticipation of the summer heat. Can you believe we’re this close?

Throw in a couple of Wiffleball games, some cornhole on the patio, and maybe a marshmallow roast, and you’ve got yourself a calendar worthy of a fantastic, if late, spring.

We’ve got one more big surprise coming, but that will be the subject of my next blog. Believe me, you will not want to miss it. Check back soon!

Until we meet…
