Summer Teaser

As I write this blog post, the sun is shining brightly and the temperature outside has climbed to 82 degrees. Yesterday, it was 90.
And… it’s only May.

I know this sultry weather won’t last–at least not for a while yet–but it has given us a little taste of summer at Meadowood. And with the return of normal activities and programming after Covid-19, it’s absolutely glorious! It’s a great time to live (and work) at Meadowood.

Familiar faces are reappearing in our classes. The walking path is in full use once again. And traditional summer activities are slowly making their way back on to our Fitness and Wellness calendar–along with some not-so-traditional ones.

Our residents enthusiastically welcomed the return of our courtyard workouts in the mornings. The water volleyball crew is back in full force in the lap pool, with the folding glass NanaWall open to the warm weather and the Beach Boys playing on the speakers. My weekly meditation class is moving outdoors next week and our Kentucky Derby Courtyard Cocktail parties were a success (complete with a “jockey” riding a hobby horse!). Oh, and speaking of horses, as I sit and write this, I’ve noticed that the Health Center activities staff has invited two beautiful horses into the Stratton Garden for equine therapy. Lovely!

As summer emerges, June will see a reboot of our Fitness Patio Mixers, a special Father’s Day Sip-and-Swim event, a walking workout on the perimeter path in honor of Great Outdoors Month, patriotic pet pictures, Pickleball lessons, and maybe an early evening s’mores party by the fire pit. What could be more summer than that?

A few new things on our agenda: Spanish Club for those who want to brush up on their Spanish speaking skills and grow their vocabulary (an excellent activity for the brain), Wellness Ambassadors to spread the word about new classes and activities, an Intellectual Wellness Programming Committee to help us take our efforts to the next level, and a class for those who want to improve their strength and abilities in Activities of Daily Living.

In other news around campus, we celebrated a lovely gal’s 100th birthday as well as the wedding of two of our residents, began preparing for construction of a new memory care building, and welcomed families and loved ones back on campus for visits and hugs. We’re enjoying golf outings, bocce, shuffleboard, and hiking on the local trails, among dozens of other activities.

In short, everywhere you look, we’re living the Six Dimensions of Wellness, and it feels great.

Just like the warm weather!

Until we meet…
